Margarita Valderrama is a Colombian‑Canadian playwright, screenwriter, and actor based in London. her scripts are filled with witty banter, pop‑culture references, and relatable relationships, usually centered on female, Latinx, and Queer characters that she likes to describe as vulnerable, miserable, toxic, and funny. She's driven to create nuanced, intersectional portrayals of the communities she belongs to, highlighting the joy her culture brings her and showcasing characters whose struggles and dreams go beyond what some audiences imagine when they hear the word “immigrant” or “Queer”. While "Witch Girl Summer" doesn’t explore themes of cultural identity, casting the talented Giullianna Martinez (a Latina and fellow Colombian) in this complex, darkly comic role is important since it helps broaden the range of nuanced representation for the Latinx community.
