Silvana Estrada

Following the release of her widely acclaimed debut album last year Mexican singer and songwriter Silvana Estrada, who won the Latin Grammy in 2022 for Best Newcomer, returns to London. Estrada has performed and recorded with internationally revered artists including Natalia Lafourcade and Jorge Drexler, and returns to the capital for her biggest UK show to date following two sold out performances last summer at St Pancras Old Church.
Silvana grew up in a house in rural Mexico where not only music, but instruments, were made; both of her parents are luthiers. She was raised singing Mexican Son jarocho before studying jazz and absorbing the music of the likes of Billie Holiday and Sarah Vaughan. Rooted in the legacy of great Latin American artists like Chavela Vargas, Violeta Parra and Soledad Bravo, Estrada’s debut album Marchitademonstrates the simplistic beauty of her music, utilising the unique sound of the Venezuelan cuatro guitar alongside her intense, haunting vocals.
Hailed by The Guardian, who described her sound as “as elegant and propulsive as the flutter of a bird’s wing”, Estrada is the new voice of a movement of independent female artists who have characterised Latin Alternative music over the last decade.
