LatinArt Lab is a permanent programme of artistic residencies hosted by Latin American House, in which each month a different London-based artist “takes over” our Community Centre to impart a series of in-person workshops for the community that translate into individual and collaborative pieces of art.

We are proud to announce that our first resident artist is Renata Fernandez! Under the topic of "Home Flowers", Renata will teach different artistic techniques that will bring the community together to share and talk about topics of home, migration and belonging.

About Renata Fernandez

Fernandez studied in Caracas Fine Art in the Armando Reveron University Institute (now UNEARTE), and Social Sciences, Media and Drama and Set Design in Universidad Catolica Andres Bello.

The militarisation of almost every single aspect of Renata’s country made her to take on camouflage as a subject-matter while indulging in its inherent painterly qualities, coinciding with the Iraq invasion back in 2003. All her most recent work in painting, drawing, sculpture and installation derives from those reflections on camouflage, also a profound need to explore the genre of landscape: one set in an urban environment, with a static narrative, usually devoid of people when monster-like tropical plants, outdoor furniture and urban architectural elements become signifiers.

About LatinArt Lab

LatinArt Lab is an initiative by Latin American House that aims to bring together London-based multidisciplinary artists with the Latin American communities of London to share and create. It provides a space for people to meet with other people, exchange experiences, get creative and fight isolation, while the resident artist gets to bring their practice to members of the community that are not the usual art consumers.

Every month a new resident artist takes over our community centre, facilitates workshops and stimulates the creation of collaborative pieces for the Community Art collection of Latin American House. The theme for the 2022 residencies is "Home".

About Latin American House

Latin American House was born in 1983 as the Latin America Association. Since then, it has served as a community centre for both Latin Americans in London and for the local people of Kilburn. Nowadays, though our ties to our local community remain strong, we aim to be a source of support and information for the Latin American population throughout the UK.

We are a registered charity and we house one of the oldest Spanish-speaking nurseries in London. We offer legal and social advice in relation to benefits, housing, and employment law, as well as opportunities to acquire life-long skills and a place to meet people, share ideas and enjoy the rich culture of Latin America.
