A powerful new photography exhibition by international charity ActionAid UK spotlights the remarkable babassu coconut breakers of northeastern Brazil and other women land defenders from around the world.

Women By Women: Rooted in Resilience opens at London’s Oxo Gallery on Thursday 9th October and runs until Sunday 12th.

Featuring powerful images from Brazil, Nigeria, Cambodia and Nepal, the exhibition shows the collective strength and resilience of women who are defending their land and their communities from destruction, captured by talented women photographers.

Among the communities the exhibition highlights are Brazil's babassu coconut breakers, who are fighting to protect their forests and way of life against the powerful landowners and agribusiness companies that want the babassu groves cleared for cattle ranching or plantations.
