A Living Legend of Latin Music, Live at KOKO for Mexican Independence Day!

This year marks an incredible milestone for La Sonora Santanera, the legendary big band that has defined the sound of Latin music for 70 years. Fusing mambo, cha-cha-cha, bolero, cumbia and merengue with their signature brass, bass, piano, percussion and four principal voices, the band has captured the hearts of Latin music fans across the globe.

With iconic hits such as Perfume de Gardenias, La Boa, Luces de Nueva York, Escarcha, ¿Dónde Estás Yolanda? and Si Supieras, La Sonora Santanera is regarded as one of the most influential and enduring bands in Mexican music history. The band’s unique style and sound have made them pioneers of the Mexican tropical music tradition.

To celebrate their 70th Anniversary, La Sonora Santanera brings their unforgettable performance to KOKO for a special night in celebration of Mexican Independence Day. This is a chance to experience their legendary music in one of London’s most iconic venues.

The band’s recent Grammy-nominated album En Su 60 Aniversario featured collaborations with artists including Gilberto Santa Rosa, Natalia Lafourcade, Lila Downs, Carla Morrison, and Ruben Albarrán of Café Tacvba, highlighting their ongoing influence in the Latin music scene.

As part of the event, we will also host the official “Grito de Independencia”,  the ceremonial shout to kick off Mexican Independence Day celebrations, led by Josefa González-Blanco Ortiz-Mena, the Mexican Ambassador to the UK.

Join us for a night of vibrant music and dance as La Sonora Santanera takes to KOKO’s storied dancefloor, creating an unforgettable celebration of Mexican culture and musical heritage.
