She has performed and recorded with artists including Natalia Lafourcade, who like Silvana, belongs to
a vibrant community of indie artists in Mexico City; Uruguayan singer/songwriter Jorge Drexler; Chile’s Mon Laferte, and Spanish group Love of Lesbian.

She emerged from a process of ‘poetic revolution’ with a clear idea of her musical identity, rooted in the legacy of great Latin American artists like Chavela Vargas, Violeta Parra or Soledad Bravo.

‘Gorgeously understated, guided by her gauzy voice and rich, acoustic arrangements. Tapping into the vastness of Mexican music, she thrills in simplicity.’ Rolling Stone

‘Silvana Estrada’s voice oozes quiet fury. It’s a quality that connects her to a long line of women in Latin America, whose voices are almost synonymous with the experience of suffering and abandonment: icons like Chavela Vargas and La Lupe. But unlike some of her forebears, the 24-year-old Mexican artist’s anguish is so quiet, so raw, it burns in her chest, smoldering under the surface. On Marchita, the rolling melismas of Estrada’s voice glide over the warmth of a Venezuelan cuatro, blooming into waves of violin and violoncello strings. “Me ha costado tanto y tanto/Que ya mi alma se marchita,” she weeps. “It’s cost me so much that my soul is withering,” she says. That is the kind of slow-burning despair that steals life from you.’ The New York Times

Marchita is probably going to be one of my top albums at the end of the year. To my ears, it’s a brilliant display of musical vision by an artist who’s just getting started.’ Félix Contreras / NPR Music
