“This film was written in 2017 and shot in 2019. Any resemblance to actual events is purely coincidental”, reads a title card at the very beginning of Iuli Gerbase’s debut feature. As the film’s plot unfurls, it becomes clear why such a disclaimer is necessary: A mysterious and deadly pink cloud appears and forces humanity to isolate indoors. The fictional life some fictional people experience in this fictional story about a fictional apocalypse bears an uncanny resemblance to a very real situation in the recent past. Giovana is confined in an apartment with Yago, a man she met at a party the night before. While waiting for the cloud to pass, the two must invent themselves as a couple. Over the years, while Yago is living his utopia, Giovana feels trapped deep inside. The sci-fi-inflected drama follows these characters who wind up stuck in an apartment together in an eerily cloistered, technologically mediated reality.
