For decades Macalé has remained true to his vision, unapologetically embracing the unconventional and challenging the status quo – and his music is a testament to his electrifying energy and unwavering spirit of artistic rebellion.

In 2022, Macalé celebrated the 50th anniversary of his debut solo album, a groundbreaking masterpiece released by Philips in 1972. This iconic record gave us timeless tracks such as Vapor Barato, Mal Secreto, Farinha do Desprezo, Revendo Amigos, and Hotel das Estrelas. It infused samba and bossa nova with the fiery essence of rock, classical harmonies and the improvisational spirit of jazz. As the years passed, a new generation of musicians and fans discovered this gem, fuelling its resurgent popularity and inspiring fresh collaborations.

Last year, Macalé assembled a formidable new band for an exhilarating homage to his illustrious body of work, with Gui Held on guitar, Pedro Dantas on bass, and Thoma Harres on drums. His performance embodies the untamed spirit and boundless musical freedom that define him, to a realm where the past intertwines with the present in a breathtaking display of artistic prowess. His music, a conduit of emotion and a mirror to society, continues to weave a sonic tapestry that resonates with the souls of listeners.

Since releasing her debut EP The Way in 2021, Raquel Martins has been making an impact on the UK music landscape with her blend of Latin-infused alt-soul. Her new project ‘Empty Flower’ is a natural evolution of her sound, with added layers of intricate arrangement and sophisticated production.

Raised in Portugal before moving to the UK in 2017, her music sits at the intersection of modern jazz and soul, reminiscent of Nai Palm, Jordan Rakei and Oscar Jerome. A celebrated guitarist and session musician in her own right, she’s also performed extensively with Rina Sawayama, Amaarae, Big Piig and Poppy Ajudha.

‘A smooth amalgam of soul and jazz, with mellow vocals sitting alongside…latin- inflected percussion and horn arrangements…Raquel Martins truly is carving out her own path.’ The Line of Best Fit
