Cinema Mentiré & Romancero Books presents LEMEBEL

Lemebel (2019) dir. Joanna Reposi Garibaldi, 96min, Chile

To celebrate LGBT+ History Month, Cinema Mentiré and Romancero Books present "Lemebel," by Joanna Reposi Garibaldi. A documentary capturing the life and legacy of the writer Pedro Lemebel.

Writer, Visual Artist and pioneer of the Queer movement in Latin America, Pedro Lemebel shook up conservative Chilean society during Pinochet’s dictatorship in the 1980s. Body, blood and fire were protagonists throughout his work. In the last eight years of his life, he attempted to perpetually rework them in a film he never finished. Taking an intimate and political journey through his risky performances on homosexuality and human rights, “Lemebel” culminates in a cinematic expression of yearning immortality.

Following the screening, join a panel discussion hosted by Romancero Books delving into Lemebel's influence and literary journey. A selection of his writing will be available for purchase at the event.

For a unique Valentine's Day experience, come celebrate the life and art of Pedro Lemebel.
