Argentinian filmmaker Jonathan Perel’s practice focuses upon sites of trauma relating to the military dictatorship of the 1970-80s. Camuflaje takes as its site of investigation a detention centre, Campo de Mayo. This new film is a collaboration with the Argentinian writer Félix Bruzzone, whose mother was interned and disappeared from the camp.

Bruzzone’s research acts as the core material in this film, as writer and filmmaker set out to engage with the now-abandoned site. Nature has taken over, but security guards remain. Core to the film is a series of shots of Bruzzone running compulsively around the perimeter of Campo de Mayo, a visceral embodiment of psychic trauma. This is interwoven with a series of encounters, each reflecting upon the history of the site and considering different possibilities of what this contested location might become.
