Wahaca at St Paul’s

The colours and design of the new Wahaca restaurant are as diverse and distinctive as the flavours you can taste in the food they serve.

Chances are you have already eaten in one of the 10 Wahaca restaurants around London, and just in case you were not aware, there is a new Wahaca in the One New Change shopping centre behind St Paul’s which is very much worth a visit. In case you haven’t been to any of them, this one would be an optimal introduction to this “mexican market eating” delight. All of their locations seem to have a unique atmosphere and personality to them, and this one is clearly no exception. As you walk toward the restaurant you can immediately see the colourful inside through their huge welcoming windows, and soon enough, with the help of a friendly and helpful staff, you realise that they offer an authentic eating experience. A well explained and pretty straight forward menu offers a good variety of dishes and drinks, but not so much that is overwhelming and gets you confused about what to eat. If you have any questions or would like any further explanation, the staff seems to be pleased to help you out and are well informed about the offer. You can start with some nibbles, all of which come with tortilla chips that can be a bit salty without the toppings but have an ideal texture and consistency once you put them together. I would personally suggest the guacamole since it goes very well with the salty taste of the tortillas, and if you have some tortillas left you can eat them with one of their new noteworthy hot sauces. When it comes to the main course you can either choose to have some street food which will allow you to have at least a couple of different plates, or one “plato fuerte”. I ordered the Wahaca selection for £19.95, which is a value for money comprehensive and varied selection of their street food for two people that will take your taste buds for a ride. The downside of this order is that it is a fixed selection. You can always choose the combination that suits your taste from the other smaller plates, all of these are fairly priced between £3.80 and £4.50. I would recommend you don’t leave without trying the Pork pibil, and if you’re a vegetarian the winter vegetable tacos. Wahaca St.Paul's First Floor One New Change London EC2V 6AG
