JANUARY
Kali Uchis & Peso Pluma – Igual Que Un Ángel
2024 opened with an easy-listening number from Uchis and Pluma who transported listeners to a dreamy funk-esque wonderland. It may have been the start of a new year, but this single took inspiration from past eras being heavily 80’s inspired. Whether it’s the twinkling synths or the low bass guitar embedded underneath, there’s no denying the influence this song took from the decade that defined synth-pop. Peso Pluma dropped his playboy persona to match Kali’s ‘freak’, he opted for softer lyrics, presenting himself as a sweetheart, unlike his prior sultry collaboration ‘Bellakeo’ with Anitta. January saw Reggaeton floating on clouds.
FEBRUARY
FloyyMenor & Cris MJ – Gata Only
These two Chilean artists had everyone hooked from MJ’s initial “Mami, te siento lejo', dime dónde está”. MARCH
Anitta, Brray and Bad Gyal - Double Team
Anitta’s ‘Funk Generation’ has been steadily gaining popularity for itself since ‘Funk Rave’ and ‘Mil Veces’ dropped mid-2023. The aptly named ‘Double Team’ continues this legacy featuring two artists in the form of Brray and Bad Gyal, who merge Anitta’s Brazilian funk instrumentals with their signature vocal styles. Festival season saw the singer put on a remarkable set at Beach Please! with her stage channelling this very music video set. In true Anitta style the video is twerk-heavy, including a car scene with Brray in the drivers’ seat, Bad Gyal posing rooftop and Anitta twerking adjacent all in one frame.

This Puerto Rican rising champion has had a very prosperous year from the start with the star-studded feminine linkup ‘Chulo Pt.2’ continuing its success into January, a from last collaboration with fellow rapper Tokishca fronted by club hitmaker Bad Gyal. It’s got the perfect reggaeton formula, dembow beats, lyrics about a confusing relationship and a Feid feature. The Colombian rapper, who’s been sporting ‘Brat’ green before it was trendy, mirrors his ‘REMIX EXCLUSIVO’ as once again he’s waiting on his phone to light up with his love interest.

‘La Nena De Argentina’ has become ‘La Nena De Estados Unidos’ as 2024 has seen her touring much more than Latin America, venturing into the USA. Becerra chatted with pop hero Kelly Clarkson on her self-titled USA daytime TV show discussing its English translation and performing the song too. ‘La Nena’ should be swapped for ‘La Jefe’ as this year the Argentinian sold out River Plate Stadium with over 140,000 fans in the palm of her hands across two headlining dates.

Finishing her tour one month after the song’s premiere meant all attention could be focused onto this summer-themed smash. Admist its 14 weeks topping the ‘Billboard Hot Latin Songs’, the Colombian superstar brought the music video to life with a cathartic VMAs rendition in September. This live version captured a cute moment between Taylor Swift and Karol G dancing to this lighthearted tune together.

A fully-fledged club banger merging together two top vocal powerhouses, the video for ‘Carita Triste’ saw Ana Mena and Emilia strutting round an expensive property while throwing ornaments and artifacts with no interference, the ultimate example of pretty privilege. An operatic rendition of the classic at ‘Los 40 Music Awards 2024’ saw the love for this duet grew stronger. Ana Mena captivated the audience not once but twice throughout this performance. First blessing the crowd with her extraordinary vocal delivery and then once again switching to the original in-your-face instrumental and a dance break to match, the epitome of perfect staging.

Shakira – Soltera
She may be single, but she definitely isn’t lonely as her network of friends is nothing but impressive. Natti Natasha, Lele Pons, Anitta and Danna Poala to name a few, who cares about being in love when you’re surrounded by some of Reggaeton’s most prestige female performers. It’s a tropical, upbeat, care-free single which Shakira and her troupe of famous friends definitely understood dancing throughout the accompanying music video. Shakira announced newest tour in 2025, the star herself seemed to underestimate the fact she’s a living legend having to upgrade her USA arena tour to stadiums. UK tour dates please!
OCTOBER
Becky G – Otro Capítulo
As the leaves fell in full orange, red and yellow display, Gomez decided to fall back on her roots, embracing Regional Mexican rhythms for her fourth album ‘Encuentros’. Completing the trilogy of prior releases, ‘Esquemas’ and ‘Encuentros’, the latest album is a much-needed addition to Becky G’s always refreshing discography, she’s a modern-day musical Midas, every genre she trials is gold. Translating to ‘Another Chapter’ even though it dropped mid-October, the single is one of forgiveness, compassion and no inhibitions. Singing ‘Lo que pasó, baby, ya pasó / Vamo' a empezar otro capítulo’, a mantra listeners can try in real-time.
NOVEMBER
Rauw Alejandro & Romeo Santos – Khé?
“Ra-Rauw” and “The King” perfectly encapsulate the golden age of Hollywood in a black and white hue music video sporting similar fresh white suits. Alejandro’s album ‘Cosa Nuestra’ released in the same month as this single, it’s been a talking point all year with other tracks dropped throughout the year including ‘Déjame Entrar’. The song’s title translates to ‘Why?’ and listeners may be wondering ‘Why?’ haven’t these two been in the studio together before, they’re a formidable duo. The saxophone introduction adds a classy element to the track before these two crooners swoon lovestruck fans over a typical Reggaeton soundboard.
DECEMBER
Tokischa & Nathy Peluso – De Maravisha
An ode to old-school hip-hop, ‘De Maravisha’ sees two Reggaeton greats opting out of their comfort zone for a bass-heavy, slow-tempo production. Halfway through Peluso sings “Con la Tokischa de maravilla” and the song changes for a more standard Reggaeton music pattern. It’s not only the two artists fronting the track who took risks, the producer behind this genre-bending rhythmic beat number is none other than Skrillex, quite a contrast from his EDM hits. As the new year approaches, what better way to celebrate than defying people’s expectations, something which these two ladies have mastered with this hip-hop reggaeton fusion.
