On a cold winter's night something hot was stirring. Graceful Lucía and Elías were blending sensuality with strong emotional undertones and elegant, precise footwork in a deep and intimate dance, but were disrupted by the arrival of a fascinating stranger who awakened one’s inner
desires. Inés is like a storm — mysterious, confident, and magnetic. She doesn’t lead
astray by persuasion or false promises. To Lucía, she is a threat, to Elías, a temptation,
and to the audience, Inés embodies the force of change.
Three world-class dancers showed the fragile edge between connection and collapse,
through sensual choreography on the edge of embrace. They create meditation on
intimacy, vulnerability, and the moment just before everything changes. Through the
non-verbal communication and expressive movements, we experienced the real drama.
And I tend to believe them when Elías is drawn into a newcomer's magnetic orbit, and
Lucía is heartbroken. When the trio’s tango becomes a battlefield, and each step is laced
with longing, jealousy and confrontation, you simply can't take your eyes off it.
The story, which might be considered as old as time, appears to be more impressive
than expected. It is rendered savagely fresh through the passionate vocabulary of
Argentine tango. Reminiscent of “Tango After Dark”, German Cornejo's legendary show which returns to at the Peacock Theatre this year, "On the Edge of the Embrace" combines contemporary movement, music, and scenario. The magic of David Chartoriski’s piece is in its story-telling.
Because of a cleverly staged plot twist in this production, Lucía rises from the ruins of
betrayal. Her struggle for affection in the end transforms into a struggle to retrieve
identity and strength. The embrace becomes a choice for liberation. There’s never a dull
moment in this show, with a wide variety of tunes in terms of tempo and emotion –
there’s a sort of passion that is pleasant, and a sort of passion that is fiery. There’s no need for words.

As a dancer David Chartoriski conquered international stages, cutting his teeth as a resident dancer in Buenos Aires's most prestigious theatres beforehand. Among his achievements are wins at the London Tango Cup and Antalya Tango Cup in 2024. As a choreographer he is both emotionally intimate and physically intense.
This shining dance triptych could not happen without bursts of energy created by the
music. Amy Winehouse, Mariah Carey, Britney Spears and Indila are reimagined through the sultry and melancholy notes of Argentine tango, performed by Fabio Hager sexteto. Here tango, more than a century old, and modern dance are combine forces, blending traditional Argentine roots with modern techniques, making this dance more acceptable for the larger audience and creating new ways of contemplating the story.
Modern tango is able to speak with the audience in its own language. It transforms the dance from a fixed cultural practice into a dynamic dialogue, influencing contemporary choreography by integrating its sensual connection and emotional depth into other styles and promoting equal partnership.
Chartoriski's drama is one of a kind. The spectacle is filled with vibrant and unforgettable trio tango movements, where each dancer brought a ton of their personality to bear on their instinctive choices during the performance. And this is what we have been waiting for: classical tango in a contemporary setting.
