COYA

Upmarket Peruvian cuisine doing justice to the craze

You may have already heard amazing things about Coya, the upscale Latin restaurant in glamorous Mayfair. Unsurprisingly it also has branches in Dubai and Miami… adding to it’s allure. On first impression the decor is wonderful, with an open plan kitchen so you can peek over at your food as it’s being cooked. We tried their new Gluten-Free Express menu.

We started off with the guacamole which was incredibly creamy and smooth, curbing the recent trend of having chunky roughly mashed guac. The waiter told me the secret to their guacamole is finely chopped fresh red chilli… which it what gives it it’s extra oomph. I loved it but I love anything spicy. The staff were attentive and informative at every part of the meal taking care to explain what we were having.

For the Gluten-Free menu we ordered Sea Bream Ceviche for a starter followed by the Duck Leg Confit on a bed of cilantro rice and then opted for the coconut mousse. Considering our surroundings in the heart of Green Park we thought £24 was very reasonable for a 3 course menu and it was absolutely delicious. We loved how the ceviche was served on ice, like you normally see oysters, keeping it cold and refreshing. The leche de tigre was divine and of course probably our favourite part of the meal. The duck was also great, with an authentic presentation. The coconut mousse was a triumph. This place is great for dates or to impress your friends, either way it shows off Latin-Food in the best light possible, just the way we like it.
