THE APRIL REGGAETON RECAP | 2026

What year it has been for the Latin music industry so far, with Bad Bunny's Super Bowl Halftime Show back in February and now US Festival Coachella's first ever Latina headliner courtesy of La Bichota Karol G. That's not it, as Shakira is just days away from performing a potential record-breaking concert in Brazil. As always, you can expect this Reggaeton Recap to be varied, but this list really caters to all with dance, funk and trap-pop all covered. If that wasn’t enough there’s a dramatic song with opera-leaning vocals and a collaboration between a Reggaeton all-star and a dream-pop band member.

Topic X Becky G – Sorry Papi

The past month has been huge for Becky G as she has started rolling out her new era, dropped this upbeat collaboration and made a surprise appearance during Karol G’s Coachella set twice. This superstar used this largescale performance to make a statement saying, “Y a todos los inmigrantes, te queremos mucho”. Now, she’s alongside Topic on a track that shares a title with a Bad Bunny collaboration and a music video where “We spent the whole budget on tacos and tequila”. This is a summer anthem that would fit perfectly as the soundtrack to any upcoming parties.

Anitta & Shakira – Choka Choka

Completely contrasting her previous effort ‘Pinterest’, the Brazilian artist has opted for fast-paced electronic production, powerful drums and an addictive chant chorus.  Oh and she’s also called in reinforcement from Latin legend Shakira to really double down on how hard-hitting this single is. Anitta is experimenting with the sounds of her native country through her newest LP Equilibrium and this link-up is all the elements of Brazilian funk amplified. If the star power of these two Latin ladies isn’t enough for you to remember this track, the repeptitive chorus  “Choka, choka, cuerpo con cuerpo, boca con boca” will stick with you – that’s if you’ve stopped replaying it yet.

Young Miko – BIAF <3

“Mirror, mirror on the wall, la más freaky aquí soy yo“, Miko digresses on her latest hit. ‘BIAF’ which stands for “Baby I’m a freak” is a mellow-trap-pop melody where Miko boasts her confidence in securing a relationship. This becomes evident when she talk-sings the line “Muy sexy y yo lo sé, tu crush y yo lo sé” and “Muy sexy pa' tener una jeva, y no dos o tre'”. Outspoken about her sexuality, this video celebrates this further with openly gay dancers featuring throughout as Miko talks all about exclusivity while naturally flirting with all the listeners.

Matt Louis – Juanga

If this track had to be described by one word alone, it would be dramatic – just like it’s accompanying video. Muffled synths are quietly underlaying Louis’ deep-operatic vocals until the arrival of heavy electronic claps before a bassline takes charge. As the song progresses it turns into something reminiscent of a track from Dua Lipa’s Future Nostalgia but it’s the star’s grand vocal delivery that distinguishes it. Nearing its end, ‘Juanga’ gets even more complex as an echoey steel-drum-inspired rhythm grows louder before closing the single. The song is made alongside frequent producer William Russell known for Louis’ 2025 project Gamma.

Tokischa – Perreo Llorando

The mood board for this song’s video definitely included The Marías ‘Lejos De Ti’ as Tokischa can be seen baring all in a similar snowy environment, however the Dominican act has slightly more clothing in the form of a white veil. The saying of money can’t buy happiness definitely applies here as Toki professes “Me rodeo de gangsta, millonario', alta gama' / Pero quien quiero escuchar hace mucho que no me llama”. For a Tokischa record, this is more pop-leaning and to the average listener, the dembow would be considered loud but for this artist this beat is quite toned-down. Toki is in her feelings for this one.

Bonus Track:

Karol G and Greg Gonzalez – Después de ti

Girlado’s newest song is enough to cure any post-concert depression, or post-Coachella depression that anyone might be facing right now. Teaming up with Cigarettes After Sex band member Greg Gonzalez, Karol has made a break-up ballad that encapsulates the loneliness of realising that person who was such a big part of your life is no more. The guitar and subtle accompaniment allow Karol to lay all her emotions out and this line in the chorus is gut-wrenching and beautiful all at the same time, “Y me haces falta tú y tu mirada fría / Que se calentaba cuando me veías”.
