Inspiring Accessories

Atteyé is a Indigenous inspired jewellery brand, founded by Carina Costa Londoño after a visit to the Colombian Amazon rainforest where she learnt the beading tecniques of the  Embera Chami tribe. Translating as “mountain people or people of the mountains,” Embera Chami have been practicing this unique way of beading for over 300 years. There are approximately 50 000 in Colombia who identify as Emberá. They are one of the few indigenous communities in the country that continue to practice their unique dialect, cultural expressions and ancestral spirituality.  Atteyé  is the UK’s Number 1 indigenous Jewellery brand enriched with unique culture. Modelled here by Zanay you can see the full selection in our feature Amazonas in this months print edition. www.atteye.co.uk

Viva España

Our favourite Spanish chef, Omar Allibhoy, who also happens to be the nation’s favourite Spanish chef (and LUKAS winner), has been a busy bee over lockdown. Not only has he recently launched a YouTube channel with recipes and tutorials, but also a digital hub with an online Deli selling his favourite Spanish products. We've checked The Spanish Chef, and can see he's got some delicious Hampers. This medium one contains goodies auch as  tortas de aceite, chorizo artisanal, manchego cheese, quince jelly (perfect combo with the mini breadsticks also included!)paté ibérico, paleta iberica, Galician style “pulpo”, extra virgin olive oil, green manzanilla olives - an ideal present for any Spanish foodie. Shake Off Your Lockdown!

Rafael Santandreu, one of the world’s leading psychologists, treats patients with anxiety disorders, people for whom fear and depression is overwhelming. In ‘Shake it Off’, the first of his best-selling books to be translated into English, the Catalan doctor argues that most people who suffer from these conditions tend to ‘awfulise’ the situations they are in; it’s not so much their situations that are bad but their thoughts that interpret them as bad. With a bit of help from these extremely readable pages, full of anecdotes, you can learn to ‘shake off' those negative thoughts so that lockdown (or perhaps the people you are locked down with) or anything you might think is awful, no longer bother you or get you down.

Smokey, Smokey

We tried this smoky Mezcal over Christmas and, unable to dispose of it at our normal Christmas Party, January became one long excuse for another Mezcal Margarita! With notes of sweet smoke, dried apricots, pineapple and plums, we can testify that a margarita takes on a whole other experience with Ojo de Dios, which is produced by Maestro Francisso Ortiz, a third generation Mezcal producer, and sustainably farmed in his estate in the region of San Luis del Rio. With the agave harvested at 7-8 years the hearts of the agave plant are cooked for up to 10 days in an underground oven using local oak wood. The cooked hearts are then crushed with a tahona and apparently pulled by ‘Chicharito’ the estate donkey. No wonder it tastes so good! Just waiting for the time when we can share it will you all. Meanwhile you can get your own at www.mexgrocer.co.uk
