Latin Londoner no.31: Angelo Flow, Reggaeton Artist

22-year old Angelo Quesini, known as 'Angelo Flow’, is a reggaetón artist born in Valencia, Venezuela. After living in Italy for three years, he came to London, and decided to stay. And the luck might be ours for the word on the street is that Angelo is hottest Latin thing to come out of London in recent years. With his Latino Caribbean swagga and commercial sound, still rooted in club culture, he can rap, sing, compose and dance. Angelo's previous single, “Que Tu Quieres” earned more than 40,000 views on YouTube and he has just released his new single 'Rosa Como Tusi.'

I quit my studies in Venezuela at the age of 18 and decided to go to Italy and work there so I could help my family. One day I came to London to visit and saw the city as a big chance for me, and I took it.

One of the reasons I left Italy was that in order to succeed there, you have to sing in Italian, which I didn’t feel comfortable doing. It took away my desire to sing.

I first went on stage when I was 16 years old, and after that I  started to feel less nervous. Now I feel comfortable really on stage.

I was inspired by Arcangel, Jowell & Randy but I try not to be too influenced by other artists. You need to have your own essence to succeed. My essence has stayed the same but the quality of my songs are higher now. The songs that best describe me haven't been released yet.

I’d like to see more unity between Urban Latin artists in the UK. From what I have seen, everyone does their own thing which makes it more difficult. We need to work together towards a goal.

I work, perform and study at the same time. I hardly sleep. This type of career requires a great financial investment, and for that I need to make sacrifices. This is my passion and I knew it wasn’t going to be easy.

The fact that I speak three languages – English, Spanish and Italian - has opened doors. I think if you can communicate with different people from different countries, it’s a good place to start!

Before going into quarantine, I working with my team on what is to be my first EP. Lockdown offered me the necessary time to dedicate much more to the creative part, and to discovering my essence.

The thought of singing live again was a bit strange, I felt nervous, a lot of adrenaline rushing through my body, but as soon as the beat began, I entered the comfort of my world on stage and it was a really fulfilling feeling.
