I'd like to take this opportunity to congratulate the winners, runners up (aswell as the very highly voted third placers) and finalists, and thank everyone who participated. The categories, and indeed the winners, represented a fantastic range of cultures spanning the whole Latin American continent and Hispanic world, and a great mix of Latinos and non-Latinos passionate about Latino culture.

We were humbled by the amount of people who embraced the LUKAS, proving to us the necessity of these awards to recognise the hard work and creativity of those dedicated to creating and diffusing Latin arts and culture. Thanks to all of you, we have a fantastic base for building up a long-lasting institution, which will grow in prestige and size year on year. We feel so proud of those people who put the hard work into their campaigns, and hope that their efforts have paid off, and that holding an award helps them in ther projects, whether its fundraising or publicity.

We are also relieved that opting for the popular vote really paid off and the winners and runners up are deserving of their prizes. We have to apologise to those people who found out about the awards too late and were unable to generate votes. Please look out for the launch of this years awards via our newsletter to give yourselves the best chance. We are already looking forward to the LUKAS 2012! In the meantime, we hope to see you all at the gala ceremony on Monday March 12th at Floridita, of which we will be giving more details in the weeks to come.

Our warm blessings to you!

We are amazed for the opportunity given to us to take part in this event. 2011 was the year in which Sangre Latina came out as the winner for the Lukas Urban Act of the year award. However we are already looking forward for future times where we bring our communities together through our music and such. Once again thank you all for the support and effort that makes it possible to happen.

What people say about us...

Latinolife is a great source of information on all the exciting things Latin American happening in the UK. Its articles, interviews and blogs are impressive in the range subjects and depth of perspectives they cover, and much needed to feed the ever growing interest in Latin America and Spanish culture in the UK.” Carlos Acosta, Principal Dancer of the Royal Ballet

“I would like to extend my warmest good wishes to all connected with Latinolife magazine...a great platform to celebrate the contribution of the Latin American, Spanish, Portuguese communities, the fastest growing and most dynamic in the Capital. London is undoubtedly a richer metropolis as a result.” Boris Johnson, Mayor of London

"Latinolife is a powerful voice for the Hispanic community in the UK.” Miriam Gonzalez Durantez, wife of Deputy Prime Minsiter Nick Clegg

"Latinolife supports the communities in London originating from Latin America and Iberian peninsula that have made an enormous contribution to the life and culture of London. Our links with Latin America are growing more important every year as new communities settle and as countries like Brazil and Argentina become powerhouses of the global economy. Latin American restaurants and shops are springing up everywhere, salsa and tango classes abound, the Spanish and Portuguese language media is growing. The LUKAS Awards both encourage and recognise the rich contribution made to our city in these and many other ways by those of Latin American, Spanish and Portuguese origin." Ken Livingstone, ex-Mayor of London and mayoral candidate 2012
